To access the Home Briefing Online Help:

The application opens the Help file and displays a relevant topic in an Online Help window:

 

Online Help Components:

 

Toolbar

The toolbar, located along the top of the viewer, contains navigation buttons (Contents, Index and Search).

Breadcrumbs trail

The breadcrumbs, located at the top of the topic pane, above the nav bar, is a navigation aid. It allows the user to keep track of the location within the document and can also be used for navigation.

Nav Bar

The nav bar, located below the breadcrumbs, contains the Hide and Browse sequence buttons.

Navigation Pane

The navigation pane, located below the nav bar, displays content and text input fields for the Contents, Index and Search.

 

Topic Pane

The topic pane displays on the right side. It displays topic content, with scroll bars for further viewing. In the Online Help Viewer, the selected book or page at the left is synchronized with the active topic on the right.

 

Navigation Buttons:

Click these buttons to navigate in the Online Help system.

Creates a larger viewing area

 

Displays the Table of Contents again

 

Goes to next topic in the sequence

 

Goes to previous topic in the sequence

 

Using Table of Contents:

On the Toolbar, click to display the Table of Contents in the left pane.

The Contents tab displays books and pages that represent the categories of information in the Online Help system.

The Contents uses the books and pages metaphor:

Books: Group topics into chapters or sections. When you click a closed book, it opens to display its content (sub-books and pages). When you click an open book, it closes. Click on a book to display topics.

 

Pages: Represent individual topics. When you click a page, you select a topic that can be viewed in the right-hand pane.

 

 

Example:

In the example below, the Contents tab and the "Generating Aerodrome PIB" page were clicked. The corresponding topic opens in the right hand pane.

Using Index:

On the Toolbar, click to display the Index in the left pane.

The Index tab displays a multi-level list of keywords and keyword phrases.
These terms are associated with topics in the Online Help system and they are intended to direct you to specific topics.

To open a topic in the right-hand pane that is associated with a keyword, select a keyword and click .

To search for a keyword, use the Type in the keyword to find field.

Example:

In the example below, the Index tab was clicked, "PIB" was typed in the text field on the left, and the Enter key was pressed. The corresponding topic opens in the right-hand pane.

 

Using Search Function:

On the Toolbar, click to display the Search function in the left pane.

The full-text search function searches the Online Help content.

The Search engine searches for any words that you type in the search field. When you hit the Enter key, Online Help finds all topics that contain the search words and lists the topic titles and its search rank.

Click a topic title to display the topic.

 

Example:

To find text with a full-text search:

  1. Click the Search tab.
  2. In the text field at the top of the tab, type the word or phrase you want to find and hit the Enter key.
  3. Under Title, click the topic you want. The topic displays in the right pane.

 

Nav bar:

The Nav bar contains Hide/Show and Browse sequence buttons.

 

Using browse sequences:

Browse sequences are different from clicking the Back and Forward buttons, which provide a history through visited topics. When you use browse sequences, you are guided through a series of topics in a specific order, if defined.

To go to the next topic in the sequence, click Next .

To go to the previous topic in the sequence, click Previous .

 

Using Hide Function:

 

Note: The Hide button and the auto sync TOC options are not supported in Netscape Navigator.

 

Hide button: Click to hide the Navigation pane to create a larger viewing area.
 

 

To display the Navigation pane, click the button again.
